She also received the nomination for "Women of Merit" from the local San Diego paper, North County Times. This is for women who have shown an outstanding commitment to community. In July 2002, Elissa received the "Hometown Hero`s Award" for her non-profit corporation that she founded called Garden of Innocence. Her organization provides burials for abandoned children.
