Investment strategy that advocates the transfer of amounts from one category of investment to another category accord­ing to a perception of how each of these categories of investments will perform relative to other categories of investments at a stipulated point in time. This strategy may be applied by purchasers of the variable dollar annuity or variable life insurance, both of which have provisions for the transfer of sums between stock, bond, and real estate accounts.
