Doris Roberts Passes at age 90 – “Everybody Loves Raymond” Star will be Missed!

While Doris Roberts had a long and scintillating career including roles on St. Elsewhere and Full House, most of the last two generations will ever associate her with “Everybody Loves Raymond”. She won four Emmys for her portrayal of Marie Barone, the titular characters meddlesome mother, and former cast and crew are in a state of shock and mourning.

Born in St. Louis, MO, Roberts was soon moved by her mother to the Bronx, NY, where they lived in an apartment owned by her grandparents, who helped raise her. She lived in New York for decades, close to the theater scene, only leaving when she moved to the West Coast to follow her blooming acting career.

Doris called many houses “home” during her stellar career; from the Tanner’s famous Victorian in San Francisco to the houses on Merrick Avenue used in Everybody Loves Raymond where Frank and Marie lived across the street from Ray. (The show actually was supposed to be taking place in Long Island.)

She reportedly passed away peacefully in her sleep in her Los Angeles real estate, which was formerly the home of the ill-fated James Dean and which will almost certainly be inherited by her son, Michael Cannata Jr. Whether he will keep or sell the house has yet to be determined, but definitely worth watching!
