She has a bachelor's degree in American Sign Language from Gardner Webb University and a master’s degree in Math Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. While in education, she was teacher of the year in two districts, district teacher of the year finalist, and national board certified. She worked hard to be the best for her students, using researched based strategies to motivate her students to learn. Joanna has a wonderful husband of 22 years, two beautiful, remarkable children, and a brilliant son-in-law.
