In 1965, my parents opened up Reeder Realty in Port Aransas, "Where the gods do not subtract from the allotted span of man's lives, those hours spent in fishing." In college and beyond I loved coming home for summers and holidays but I felt there was just not enough to keep the mind alive here back then - until 1971, when I came home for a week. That was after Hurricane Celia and there was much activity here with the infusion of insurance and hurricane disaster funds. My dad, Ray Reeder, said that the town needed a newspaper and with his backing, we started the South Jetty. Against my fathers huge protests and most adamant wishes, I sold the paper after a year (and I've been trying to make up for that foolish move ever since!). Reluctantly, I joined into the family business as a Broker, and blessedly, Port Aransas real estate has been my mainstay ever since.
I loved this tiny island community of yore, but realized from my dad that it was always destined to grow. Port Aransas is home-away-from-home, probably for millions of people who have been here, caught a fish, walked on the beach, swam in the warm Gulf waters, and reveled in the sea breezes. Port Aransas is meant to be shared and I am so grateful that I have been able to be here all along and to help in that process.
