In the past decade, technology has bounded forward at extreme speeds, leaving many of us in the dust. Everything, from our cellphones and computers to our air conditioners and real estate markets, depends heavily on technology and the internet.

The past few years have made it impossible to avoid becoming part of the trend, and while the internet is useful in almost every single way, it’s become a factor in how we live and choose new locations when moving our home. Many people work online, making it crucial to have a reliable, strong internet connection at all times. Others might just require it for leisure activities such as talking with friends, making plans, and keeping in touch.

Either way, the price and availability of high-speed internet depends on where we live.

Top 5 of the best cities for internet connections:

  1. Tampa, Florida. Technology follows the youth, and the youth are in Tampa. Named the best place to live for young people, it’s one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, with jobs cropping up as fast as people can take them. The large rise in population came with a demand for high-speed internet, and Tampa now offers an internet speed of 32 megabits per second… just ask any real estate agent in Tampa FL and he will tell you.
  2. Kansas City, Missouri. Ranking extremely high in safety, nightlife, healthcare, and general livability, it only makes sense that Kansas City would rank high in internet as well. With 35.5Mbps, Missouri real estate agents can tell you the state is pulling no punches in terms of temptation. The only downside is the high cost of living, but with that many things to move there for, who wouldn’t try and stretch their paycheck?
  3. Washington, D.C. Home of the largest federal buildings in the U.S., Washington real estate is a hub for our country’s infrastructure and government. With that bustling business comes a need for communication, which means a high standard on internet connections. Rarely falling below 40 Mbps, Washington is certainly a hotspot for tech-geeks everywhere.
  4. Baltimore, Maryland.  Maryland offers more than just high-speed 37.4Mbps internet. With a vast collection of universities and graduate schools, it’s a popular place for youth. Many of them never actually leave, either, since the city of Baltimore also boasts a number of jobs in technology, math, engineering, and science too.
  5. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Home to seven Fortune 1000 companies, Philadelphia is the center of high tech business for the entire state of Pennsylvania. With this level of professional geekery and communication comes a high need for internet, so Philly offers speeds up to 37.5Mbps, not far behind from the city of Washington D.C.

As we continue to integrate technology into our daily lives, more and more cities across the globe are going to start offering high-speed internet. Fiber-optic internet is beginning to make its way through the country, and soon we could be looking at such high speeds that even broadband will seem like dial-up in comparison.

If your dream city isn’t listed here, don’t start worrying just yet. Many cities are advancing their connectivity every day, so it’s only a matter of time until your city makes that next step to increase their speed. Real estate agents around the country are staying up to date on the trends in their cities, so they can help you find the perfect property for you. Happy living!
