Tips on Selling to Celebrities

It’s strange to think that celebrities buy homes and go shopping just like us, but we are all human, after all, and shelter is high on the Maslow hierarchy of needs list of priorities.

There are a lot of differences between the average person and an A-List celebrity. There are also a lot of differences in how they shop for a house. Buying a home takes a lot of time and thought, but celebrity real estate is different because celebrities have a lot of special options they might want, and the money to get them.

Here are six ways that celebrities differ from the average Joe when it comes to the real estate market.

  1. They shop with a team. A second opinion is always good, but some celebrities get more than just a parent or friend to tag along. Some celebrities will send real estate agents or managers to scope out a location before they make the trip, and even then they may take an entourage of people—up to fifteen people or more!
  2. They buy younger. The real estate market is unpredictable sometimes, so many celebrities will buy young and hold on to their cheaper real estates as they gain more wealth. With the power of their brand and any renovations they make, they can sometimes make a profit off the real estate property in the end.
  3. They have better amenities. From expensive wine cellars to man-made beaches, many A-list celebrities have the money to get whatever their heart desires, no matter the price tag. When a celebrity has work done on a house, they can pour millions into it, making it worth more in the end.
  4. They buy off the real estate market. Believe it or not, many real estate properties bought and owned by celebrities are never actually put on the real estate market. When real estate in Lauderdale, Florida, is put up to the public, it may ruin the privacy or the appeal of a home for many celebrities. Individuality and privacy is an important part of what celebs look for.
  5. They typically don’t get emotionally attached. We’ve all heard stories about people clinging to their childhood homes, but celebrities usually don’t have any issue leaving things behind. A house is just a real estate property to them, so passing off a home for a more luxurious option is not uncommon. Some celebrities will even buy and renovate homes they will never live in!
  6. They spend more. The obvious difference; celebrities aren’t afraid to spend a large sum for a home, especially when they’re doing particularly well. Many A-listers make more money than they can spend, so why not buy a mansion with an indoor pool?

If you get a chance to pitch a real estate property to a celebrity, remember that your job is still the same, and hit all the same soft spots like you would with a white collar family (make sure the home is properly staged, cut some fresh flowers for the dining room, and slap some fresh cookie dough into the kitchen oven to make the house smell fantastic, feel free to check more about How to Host an Open House for a Luxury Real Estate). Celebrity real estate still requires taking note and doing the little things, even more so when dealing with celebrities because the level of expectation is higher.
