  1. Molding forming the top part of a door or window.
  2. Any wood or plaster molding on an inside wall just below the ceiling. It is ornamental in purpose giving the wall a finished appearance.
  3. Molded projection attached to and crowning the uppermost portion of an outside wall. The functional purpose of the cornice is to meet the roof and throw off rain water.
