Definition of "Transit insurance"

Inland marine policy that protects an insured against loss for property that is shipped. One policy may be written for a single shipment, as for a family moving household goods, or it may be an open policy written for a manufacturer who continuously ships products. The basic inland transit policy is written on one of two policy forms, the annual policy or the open policy, trip transit insurance is available for single shipments.
