Definition of "Range survey"

Range reconnaissance, or surveying, for the purpose of preparing grazing capacity estimates. There are two parts to a range survey:

  1. mapping of grazing cover varieties and associated topographic features affecting total grazing value.
  2. Determining livestock grazing capacity as a function of vegetation density and species composition.
