An interim or provisional court decree, which is not final and can be reversed or amended, normally issued to direct additional proceedings prior to issuing a final decree. For example, an interlocutory decree is issued by a court to postpone a contested property matter until a competency hearing is held for an elderly person seeking to sell real estate in a sale being challenged by estate's heirs and assigns.
