Definition of "Portfolio rate of return"

Weighted average of the returns earned on the insurance company's investments in stocks, bonds, real estate, etc., made at different times and earning different rates of return at these times. It has been argued that this rate of return does not reflect the true rate of return on investments being earned today. This led to the development of the current assumptions products.
